Stars Air Ambulance responded to 62 emergencies across Manitoba in the month of July with 17 coming in the Southern Health region.

Clinical Operations Manager, Ray Rempel of Steinbach, says the service once again saw a lot of trauma calls for motor vehicle and ATV accidents.

Rempel states they have also recently been involved with water-related emergencies.

"There was the unfortunate event at Grand Beach this past weekend and our aircraft was involved in that response. I can't stress the importance of wearing life jackets in water, supervision near water, just being highly aware. Drowning is a very silent incident and often it only takes a few minutes for a tragedy to occur."

Rempel adds they also see more calls to significant falls during the summer.

"A common call that we do get is falling from heights. It could be a roofing incident or home construction going on where there is a significant fall. We still do see those types of incidents and, obviously, any fall from over ten feet has significant mortality consequences. Ten feet doesn't sound that high when you are on a ladder but it certainly does have significant impact to cause catastrophic injury. Be safe, make sure your ladder is well secured and know what you are doing before you get on a roof."

With roadways busier in the summer, Rempel also reminds motorists to drive extra safely, follow the speed limits, don't text and drive and don't drink and drive.
