The Reeve of Hanover says if all goes according to plan, the last of the unsurfaced streets in Mitchell will be paved this year. Stan Toews says council gave first reading this week to three local improvement plans.

The first plan will see street paving for Oakview Avenue and Willow Street. The cost of this project is $85,000. If approved, $21,500 will come from the Local Urban District of Mitchell, with another $21,500 from a provincial grant. The remaining $42,000 will be borrowed and paid back per homeowner along these streets at a rate of $19.49 per frontage foot.

The second plan will see street paving of Walnut Avenue. This project is expected to cost $50,000. If approved, $15,000 will come from a provincial grant. The remaining $35,000 will be borrowed and paid back per homeowner along this street at a rate of $19.20 per frontage foot.

And the third plan will see drainage work done along Morley Avenue South. The cost of this project will be about $75,000. If approved, $58,000 will come from the LUD of Mitchell. The remaining $17,000 will be borrowed and paid back per homeowner along this street at a rate of $19.54 per frontage foot.

Toews says public hearings for all three plans will be held February 24th. He notes if there are objections to a plan, it will be sent to the Municipal Board. Toews says unless something unforeseen happens, the projects will hopefully be completed in 2016.
