Glennis McGregor of Landmark won the 50/50 For Kids grand prize at $34,250 and says it was a surprise as her husband bought the winning ticket on her behalf.

50/50 For Kids in support of ROC Eastman generated a total of $68,500 dollars in ticket sales.

Moni Loewen is the Executive Director of ROC Eastman which stands for Recreational Opportunities for Children. She notes their half of the funds is huge for the organization in helping children whose families cannot afford to enroll in recreational activities.

"It means getting some of the families on our waiting list into our program immediately and it means a continuation of our constant journey to get to more deeply helping the families. Our mission is to reduce barriers so that kids can participate in positive recreation activities."

Loewen says all of the families they work with face financial barriers but many of them also face transportation issues, mental health issues, or are even dealing with things like court proceedings. She notes though those are not recreation-related, they do hinder families from being involved in recreational activities. She adds this money will keep ROC Eastman staffed to help families deal with these barriers.

Bev Friesen works with ROC Eastman. She says the $34,000 going to their organization is crucial to the new mentorship program they are starting.

"Every one of us needs positive people in our lives and we just want to continue that with our children. We are just about to launch that mentorship program where we are going to be having adults come into our ROC kids lives and just be positive people in their lives. Encourage them, support them, be someone that they can do what they love to do with"

Loewen says this is the third 50/50 For Kids draw in support of ROC Eastman. She notes the money that has been raised over the past two years has changed the way ROC Eastman has operated.

"We started out with two staff members, one full time and not even another halftime at year one of the 50/50 for kids. Since then we have six staff. Within those six staff, we are at about two and a half full-time positions, four of those are working right in the homes with families, we have 40 more kids in ROC since then doing unbelievably interesting recreation activities that make sense for them."

Loewen thanks everyone in the Southeast who purchased a 50/50 For Kids Ticket and all of the sponsors.
