A retired educator, municipal councillor and dedicated volunteer from Anola is running for the Liberals in La Verendrye this provincial election. Bill Paulishyn says he let his name stand because it's important that voters in the riding have the option of voting Liberal.

"I've always been a Liberal supporter and actually the leader of the Liberal Party is a (former) student of mine. At one point there was nobody running at all and I felt that it's democratic that people should have a choice and therefore you needed a Liberal on the ballot. And so that's why I decided to put my name on the ballot so those Liberals in La Verendrye will have a place to put their X. The other reason was that, in walking and listening to what's going on, people wanted change. You've got to give them an opportunity for change. There is a lot of desire out there for change and we will see on the 19th if it comes forward."

He notes the Liberals are focused on representing middle and lower income earners to give them a greater say in provincial affairs.

"Very similar to the federal Liberals, we look more at the middle class people and make sure that everyone can make a living. The middle class and the lower income people need someone to talk for them and I haven't seen that in the other two parties."

Paulishyn hopes the Manitoba Liberals can see a resurgence in support as happened in the federal election last year.
