Two people were seriously injured in a crash Wednesday evening south of Ile des Chenes.

At 9:17 p.m., St. Pierre RCMP responded to two vehicle collision on Highway 59, at the intersection of Provincial Road (PR) 210.

Officers responded immediately and found two vehicles in the west side ditch of Highway 59, south of PR 210. One vehicle was on its roof with heavy damage to the passenger door and had rolled over many times prior to stopping. A second vehicle, an SUV, was engulfed in flames.

It was determined that the SUV was travelling south on Highway 59 when it collided with the grey vehicle crossing Highway 59, travelling west on PR 210.

The driver of the grey vehicle, a 17-year-old from Ile Des Chenes, suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted by STARS. He remains in critical condition. Police say he was not wearing his seatbelt.

RCMP say the driver of the SUV, a 43-year-old female from Steinbach, suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. She was transported to hospital by ambulance.

There were no passengers in either of the vehicles involved.

St. Pierre RCMP, along with the Manitoba RCMP Traffic Services, continue to investigate.
