The Southeast Events Group (SEG) is celebrating a major milestone as the demolition of the Centennial Arena in downtown Steinbach nears completion.

The removal of the old structure paves the way for the construction of the 94,000 square foot Southeast Event Centre, set to become a central hub for community activities in the region.

At the time of publishing, a spokesperson for SEG says construction is on track with their planned timeline.

With the demolition of the Centennial Arena progressing, the construction team will start work on the event centre itself, which will include amenities such as a walking track, a gymnasium, an atrium, and a restaurant.

The next round of piling is scheduled for the first weeks of July.

The new event centre will feature a state-of-the-art two-level structure and a capacity to accommodate up to 3,500 spectators. This multi-purpose venue is designed to host a wide variety of events, including live concerts, cultural gatherings, school and community activities, as well as agriculture and livestock events.

According to a statement from SEG, “the Southeast Event Centre will truly be the hub for the entire community not only of Steinbach yet the entire Southeast of Manitoba with Bringing People Together as the main goal.”
