Hanover Ag has announced their headliners for this year’s festival!

Canadian Country Music icon George Canyon will be this year's headliner and Emma Peterson will be opening for him.

Brenda Levesque, sponsorship coordinator with Hanover Ag says Canyon is a great country artist and is a perfect fit for Hanover Ag.

“We've been working on getting him for quite a few years, and he's been so great to work with, so we're really excited that this year is the year finally,” she says. “He's coming out to do more of an intimate show. It'll be, for the most part, him and his guitar and the crowd, and it's going to be fantastic.”

She says it’s also a great opportunity to promote some Manitoba artists as well.

“We're going to have a bunch of Manitoba artists sprinkled out throughout the Hanover Ag fair this year, and we're really excited to have Emma opening up for George. I know she's excited too.”

Levesque says although they are located in Grunthal, they serve all of Hanover and southeast Manitoba.

“We really want to get everyone from the area out to come see a high caliber concert that you don't have to drive to Winnipeg to see, it's right in your backyard.”

She is looking forward to having George Canyon come out to Grunthal to perform.

“We take any chance we can to bring something at this level to the area. We want to be out in the summer with our neighbors and our friends and have a good time. So we just jumped at the chance to be able to do that.”

The Hanover Ag festival continues to grow each and every year, and they are excited to celebrate their 78th year this year.

Levesque says they have all their favourite events again this year.

“We have the bull riding, we have mud bog, we have family fun zone. And this concert is just going to be the best way to celebrate that on Saturday night.”

She expresses her thanks to the business community, not only in Grunthal, but the surrounding area, as they continue to invest to help the festival grow.

“We have huge companies that sponsor us, we have little self-employed contractors that are a one-man crew, they sponsor us. We have sponsors from Grunthal, from Steinbach, from all over the southeast. We have Winnipeg sponsors. We have national companies.”

She adds there is no way they could put on events for the community without their sponsors.

"And they recognize that, which is fantastic. We really like to showcase them as much as possible because we can't do it without them.”

Levesque says the support they received has been phenomenal.

"Especially after COVID and recovering from that, and the economy in the last few years, our sponsors have just stuck with us and they recognize that putting on events for smaller communities is so important.”
