Statistics show homeschooling doesn’t seem to be the most popular option in the Seine River School Division catchment area.

Superintendent Mike Borgfjord says in the 2016- 2017 school year, 271 students in Seine River’s catchment areas were homeschooled compared to 246 in 2017-2018. He notes that does not include students who attend private schools.

The last four years each year it has gone down a little bit," Borgfjord indicates.

"We really don’t any reason necessarily why. I mean it could be a combination of more students coming to our schools or going to independent schools as well."

Borgfjord says they do however see a large number of students who are homeschooled in the elementary years but return to public school for high school.

Although, he notes it is good information to know as to how many potential students they could have in their school system at some point.

"There’s 246 students that could be coming to our schools that are home schooled which is great," adds Borgfjord, "that’s a family choice and we share that information with our board.
