The Steinbach Huskies are into round two of the Carillon Senior Hockey League playoffs and the Grunthal Red Wings and Ste. Anne Aces are going the distance in their opening round series.


Steinbach 5 St. Malo 2
Gabe Minville scored twice as the Steinbach Huskies downed the Warriors 5-2 in St. Malo. Kyle Dyck, Brett Adnum and Tanner Harms also scored for the Huskies who took the best-of-five opening round series three games to one. Derrick Tetrault and Rossel Forest replied for the Warriors who won the series opener and then dropped three straight. Steinbach goaltender Caden Unger faced just 17 shots while St. Malo netminder Matthew Krahn faced 46 shots. The Huskies join the two-time defending champion Red River Wild and the first place Springfield 98's in the semifinals.


Grunthal 5 Ste. Anne 3
Jeff Penner scored twice as the Grunthal Red Wings beat the Aces 5-3 in Ste. Anne. Cody Gross, Jayden Plett and Brody Kornelsen into an empty net also scored for the Red Wings who evened that opening round series at two games a piece. Tyler Swerdyliak, Dustin Pearson and Tyler Bram replied for the Aces who led 2-0 after the first period. The game was tied 2-2 after forty minutes. The deciding fifth game goes tonight in Grunthal.
