After more than six months of uncertainty, the RM of La Broquerie has received permission to move forward with their lagoon tertiary project.

The $4 million project has been on hold since December after the Department of Sport, Culture, and Heritage expressed concerns that there may be human remains or culturally significant artifacts buried on the property.

Reeve Lewis Weiss they have conducted a heritage study on the construction site southeast of the La Verendrye and have been given the go-ahead to continue with the project. He notes council was anticipating these positive results but they needed an official confirmation.

“There was excavating done and it was clear so they gave us the go ahead so we are very excited to move forward. We, of course, were hoping and believe strongly, because it had been many years in cultivation that there would very unlikely be artifacts and body parts from the last couple hundred years.”

Weiss says now that they have been given approval, they will put this project to tender as soon as possible so that construction can begin.
