A young woman has learned a very expensive lesson about speeding. RCMP were notified at 10:00 a.m. Sunday about an erratic, speeding driver heading south on Highway #12 towards Steinbach. Officers clocked her doing 151 kilometres per hour in the 80 zone near Mennonite Heritage Village.
The 21-year-old woman from Winnipeg told officers she was late for cheerleading practice. Police say she faces a fine of $979.

Steinbach RCMP caught two impaired drivers over the weekend.

Friday night at 7:45, they received a complaint about a vehicle swerving as it headed east on Highway #52, towards Mitchell. Police stopped the car two kilometres west of Mitchell. The driver was found to have a blood-alcohol level almost two-and-a-half times the legal limit. A 43-year-old male from the RM of Whitehead, near Brandon, was charged with impaired driving.

Then on Sunday at 1:34 a.m., officers spotted a vehicle swerving as it headed west on Highway #52 in Steinbach towards the water tower. The driver was stopped and tested. She had a blood-alcohol level almost twice the legal limit. A 35-year-old woman from La Broquerie has been charged with impaired driving.
