The Town of Niverville has officially annexed 340 acres of land from the Rural Municipality of Hanover.

Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck says the lands became a part of Niverville on January first. He notes council has been working on this annexation for a few years now and they are very pleased that it is finally complete. He says the town can now get started on the development of the business park which is one of the top priorities for 2017.

“We are currently working at getting the costs together so that we are going to know the cost of the sewer, the water, the roads, all things that will be involved with that and once we have that we can put things to tender. It allows us to get the next action steps rolling now that we have ownership.”

Dyck says Niverville town council has tendered out the engineering for the business park for $173,000 and they hope to break ground on the project during the 2017 construction season. He notes there is also some Agricultural land that has been annexed.

“The other lands we have, right now they are Ag lands and if the owners want to continue to farm for eternity that is their right, but it gives them the opportunity should they wish to develop it themselves or they sell it to others who wish to do so they now have those opportunities.”

Dyck says the first step forward will be finalizing the town's development plan and rezoning for the annexed land. He notes that should be done in the next few weeks.
