Steinbach City Administration expects Park Road West to be back open to the public after October 13 of this year.

Council discussed the progress on Park Road West at Tuesday evening’s council meeting.

City Manager Troy Warkentin says the project has been going on for quite a while.

“Phase one began in summer of 2022, so I would have to say this project has been fairly long in the tooth. Phase 1 was completed earlier this summer, however, because phase two of the Park Road West improvement project also began this summer, the road has been closed for some time.”

He says based on the current schedule, concrete work has already begun with the expectation that it will be done in the next two weeks or so.

Steinbach Mayor Earl Funk says after so many delays, it’s nice to see the reopening on the horizon.

“Phase two didn’t line up with phase one, last year they ran into weather problems, so I’m looking forward to that. I think it is going to make a huge difference in that northern quadrant.”

He says it will help ease up traffic on Highway 12.

“Because people can take Industrial Road all the way up and head to the back side of the mall or those businesses down there. It just gives another option of going North in our community.”
