A man from Steinbach is in stable condition after being struck by a vehicle while out walking Thursday evening.

Steinbach RCMP were called to Highway 12 at 7:44 pm after a car had hit a pedestrian.

Police say their investigation has determined that the car was headed south when the passenger noticed something black in the middle of the intersection near Superstore. Police say road conditions were icy and the driver could not stop in time and ended up hitting one of the two pedestrians. His vehicle then knocked down a traffic light standard.

The injured male is a 21-year-old from Steinbach. He was transported to hospital and is listed in stable condition.

The female pedestrian is a 20-year-old from Steinbach. She did not suffer any injuries. Police say there were also no injuries to either the driver or passenger of the vehicle, who are both from Steinbach.
