The Steinbach Pistons are expecting to play in front of a special crowd Saturday night as they face Dauphin for a game in Winnipeg at the Wayne Fleming Arena at the University of Manitoba.

Last weekend, Steinbach goalie Cole Plowman stole the show making 28 saves helping his team to a 5-1 win over the Dauphin Kings.

Jamie Roy, Sales & Marketing Manager for Steinbach, explains how it came about that the team is taking tonight’s home game on the road.

“Our schedule gets made very early; it gets made in late spring before our local communities are making their arena schedules. So once our schedule was out, we were informed that, hey, this particular date, there actually isn't ice available,” Roy says. “So, we're like, OK, let's take this opportunity, let's go find a nice big arena, we can invite a ton of people. We have access to the Jumbotron and the whole game production system, so let's just put on a show and have some fun.”

Roy expects it will be an exciting night for players as well as fans.

“We're playing Dauphin, it's the Clash of Champions. We're the last two MJHL championship teams and so that's how we've branded it and we're playing a pretty good rival.”

It will be a good test for the Pistons who are riding a 9-game winning streak after two victories last weekend.

Roy says they are celebrating minor hockey at the game tonight and invited a lot of groups for the special game to cheer on the Pistons and enjoy some fast-paced hockey.

“All of minor hockey from this region, including Winnipeg, minor hockey players get in free if they sign up with their teams. And so, we've got about 12 to 15 minor hockey teams coming out, all going to be sporting their jerseys. And then Shannon Sawatsky from Blumenort School and the Eastman Youth Choir, she's bringing out like 60 kids to sing the anthem, and then all their families. So, we're going to have a really good crowd and that's going to be such a cool atmosphere.”

Game time tonight is 7pm as the Steinbach Pistons host the Dauphin Kings at the Wayne Fleming Arena at the University of Manitoba.
