Yesterday, Premier Heather Stefanson announced that the government is starting preparation for the possible arrival of thousands of Ukrainian refugees.

Premier Stefanson talked about allowing those forced out of their homeland by the brutal war of aggression to come into Manitoba.

"The unimaginable loss and suffering being borne by the people of Ukraine unites us in outrage and common purpose – they need a safe haven, our compassion and our support," says Stefanson. "Manitoba remains fully committed to welcoming as many Ukrainians as possible fleeing this unprovoked and terrible war and will provide them with the full range of available provincial service supports."

Within days of the Putin-ordered Russian invasion last month, preparations began as a special committee of deputy ministers was formed to lead and oversee the government's response and planning efforts.

ernment response continues to unfold, Manitoba will do more than our proportional part within Canada and will be ready to extend full provincial service supports with open arms and hearts."
