Local talent will join the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra this month for a concert in Steinbach.

“The Eastman Youth Choir is coming, directed by Johanna Hildebrand,” says Tara Schellenberg, Performing Arts Coordinator for the Steinbach Arts Council. “They’re going to sing a couple of songs on their own and they’re going to sing with the symphony. So, a real highlight for those kids, and for us watching them.”

A local celebrity is chosen each year for a special reading at the holiday concert.

“We have a narrator reading ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” says David Klassen, Executive Director of Steinbach Arts Council. “This year we are very excited to be hosting Paul Dyck from the (Steinbach) Pistons, reading with the symphony. I think that’s going to be great.”

The concert will also have an artist at the concert who will create a masterpiece throughout the evening.

“It is a very cool thing you get to see unfold through the course of the evening,” Klassen says. “Nico Narváez is doing the live artwork. He’s one of the instructors at our art centre. He works with kids and adults and does many different art forms. His work is very, very detailed so we’re excited to see it show up on a large scale.”

The WSO Manitoba Hydro Holiday Concert Tour 2023 will be in Steinbach on Thursday, November 30th at Crossview Church on Loewen Boulevard.

This annual concert has become quite popular, Klassen notes it was a sold-out show last year.

Tickets can be reserved by contacting the Steinbach Arts Council.
