The Winnipeg Blue Bombers face the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Regina tonight. The Bombers won their home opener 42-31 over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last Friday while the Riders downed the Edmonton Elks 17-13 at Commonwealth Stadium on Sunday. Defensive tackle Jackson Jeffcoat will not play tonight. He suffered a calf injury in the win over Hamilton and did not practice this week. Jeffcoat has been placed on the six-game injured list and will be replaced in the starting lineup by rookie Celestin Haba, who recorded a sack in his CFL debut against the Tiger-Cats.


The Winnipeg Jets have signed their 2022 sixth-round pick (175th overall) Fabian Wagner to a three-year, entry-level contract with an average annual value in the NHL of $858,333. Wagner is scheduled to join the 2023 Winnipeg Jets Development Camp, which will be held from July 4th-8th at Hockey for All Centre. Wagner, 19, spent the 2022-23 season in Sweden and played for Linkoping’s SHL and junior squads. The Nykoping, Sweden native played 22 games for the Linkoping SHL team. Wagner added 33 games for the Linkoping J-20 team where he recorded 33 points (11G, 22A) and eight penalty minutes before adding an assist in four playoff games.  Internationally, Wagner has represented Sweden multiple times, including at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championships where he recorded six points (2G, 4A) and two PIMs in seven games. Sweden finished fourth after losing an epic bronze medal overtime game to the United States team that featured Jets prospects Rutger McGroarty and Chaz Lucius.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes gave up four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and lost 7-5 to the Sioux Falls Canaries. Najee Gaskins and Andy Armstrong had two rbi each for the Fish who open a three-game weekend series against the Kane County Cougars tonight in Geneva, Illinois.  


Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele share the lead heading into round two of the U.S. Open. Both were eight-under par 62 Thursday at the Los Angeles Country Club. Wyndam Clark and Dustin Johnson are two shots back. Seven Canadians are in the field. Mackenzie Hughes was three-under par 67; Corey Conners and Adam Hadwin were even par 70; Adam Svensson was 71 while Roger Sloan, Taylor Pendrith and Canadian Open champion Nick Taylor were 72.
