Haiden Willis scored the go-ahead goal with 5:46 remaining in the third period and Braden Berube potted a shorthanded empty-net goal with 90 seconds left as the Eastman Selects won their first game of the 2022-23 Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League season 4-2 over the Yellowhead Chiefs in Shoal Lake. Ashton Cure and Liam Leduchowski also scored for the Selects. Eastman netminder Jaxon Loewen made 28 saves. The Selects lost their season opener 4-3 to the Chiefs on Saturday. Eastman will play its home opener Wednesday against the Winnipeg Thrashers at the Sun Gro Centre in Beausejour.


Manitoba Moose training camp begins today with practice sessions at 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. at Bell MTS Iceplex. This year's training camp includes exhibition games against the University of Manitoba Bisons and the University of Regina Cougars.


Steinbach Regional defeated the Oak Park Raiders 25-9, 25-19 in the championship game of the Lord Selkirk Royals Royal Rumble varsity girls volleyball tournament. 


Steinbach Regional swept the Vincent Massey Trojans 25-20, 25-17 in the final of the Daniel McIntyre varsity boys volleyball tournament.


The Transcona Titans defeated Gabrielle Roy les Roys 25-14, 25-18 in the final of the Steinbach Christian varsity boys volleyball tournament.  


Gabrielle Roy beat the host Garden Valley Zodiacs 21-25, 25-19, 15-11 in the final of the GVC junior varsity boys volleyball tournament in Winkler.


The Kelvin Clippers beat the host Scorpions 25-18, 25-18 in the final of the Lorette varsity girls volleyball tournament.


The Green Valley Pirates swept the St. Joachim Braves 25-20, 25-23 in the final of the Treherne varsity girls volleyball tournament.


The Garden Valley Zodiacs blanked the Morden Thunder 4-0 in the final of the Steinbach Regional Rur-Ban Boys Fall Soccer Challenge. The host Sabres beat Maples 5-1 in the third place game.


The Toronto Blue Jays magic number to clinch the first American League wildcard spot is down to two. Teoscar Hernandez homered twice and Whit Merrifield also went deep as Toronto completed a three-game weekend sweep of Boston beating the Red Sox 6-3 Sunday at Rogers Centre. The Blue Jays, who are two games ahead of the Seattle Mariners, close out the regular season schedule with a three-game series against the Orioles which begins tonight in Baltimore. 


Mackenzie Hughes drained an eight-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole and captured the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi. The 31-year-old native of Dundas, Ontario fired a final round three-under par 69 and was tied for first place with Sepp Straka at minus 17. It's the second PGA Tour title for Hughes who won the 2016 RSM Classic, also in a playoff.
