Steinbach Regional boys and Ecole St. Joachim girls won the Zone 13 High School golf championships Tuesday at the Maplewood golf course near St. Pierre. Ty Brewster, Ryder Chabot, Terran Perreault and Jagger Bueckert of the Sabres finished 13 shots ahead of Cole Chubey, Colin Coulombe, Cedric Gosselin and Justin Lavack of École Communautaire Réal-Bérard in St. Pierre. Tamika Colette, Isabelle Dumesnil, Alyssa Romaniuk and Ava Boily of the Braves captured the girls title. Jagger Bueckert and Ava Boily had the low rounds of the day. Bueckert was 73 and Boily was 109. The SRSS boys and St. Joachim girls will represent Zone 13 at the Provincial High School Golf Championships next Friday at the Pleasant Valley golf course in Belmont.


Golf Manitoba's final competitive event of the season takes place today. 46 teams including Elijah Durksen & Ted Froese of the Steinbach Fly-In golf club and Chris Warrack & Jody Fenton and Matt Fatouros & Ryan McLean of Quarry Oaks will be competing at the Men's Four-Ball Championship at the Bridges golf course near Starbuck. 


The Brandon Wheat Kings acquired 20-year-old forward Jayden Wiens from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for two picks in the Western Hockey League Prospects Draft, a 2025 3rd round pick and a 4th round selection in 2027. The native of Carrot River, Saskatchewan has played 166 WHL games, all with the Blades. He posted 43 goals and 82 points in that span. Wiens finished with 17 goals and 27 points in 42 games last season for Saskatoon. In 18 playoff games, Wiens finished second on the team with eight goals. With the acquisition of Wiens, the Wheat Kings now have four 20-year-old players on their roster, a number they must reduce to three by October 10th.


Winnipeg Jets training camp begins today at hockey for all centre. 56 players including six goaltenders, 19 defensemen and 31 forwards are divided into two teams. Team Numminen will practice at 10 a.m. and Team Selanne will hit the ice at 1 p.m. The Jets first of six pre-season games is Sunday against the Oilers in Edmonton.
