The Steinbach Pistons are one win away from advancing to round two of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League playoffs. Kirk Mullen scored a power play goal 2:39 into double overtime to lift the defending Turnbull Cup champions past the Niverville Nighthawks 3-2 Tuesday night at the HyLife Centre in La Broquerie. Leo Chambers and Grady Hoffman also scored for the Pistons who lead the best-of-seven East Division semifinal three games to none. Michael Debrito and Luke MacKenzie replied for the Nighthawks. Game four goes Thursday in Niverville. 


The Brandon Wheat Kings are Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League champions. Colten Worthington scored 1:23 into overtime to lift Brandon past the Winnipeg Wild 4-3. The Wheat Kings swept the best-of-five final in three straight. Easton Odut, Josh McGregor and Jaxson Brick also scored for Brandon. Declan Siwicki, Carter Kingerski and Tegan Kurtz replied for the Wild who will host the Telus Cup West Regional Championship at Hockey for All Centre beginning Thursday, April 4th. The four-team field includes the Wheat Kings, the Wild, the Saskatchewan U18 AAA Hockey League champion Saskatoon Blazers and the Hockey Northwestern Ontario AAA District champion Thunder Bay Kings. 


The Winnipeg Jets losing skid has reached four games. Zach Hyman scored his 51st goal of the season 1:22 into overtime to lift the Edmonton Oilers past Winnipeg 4-3 at Canada Life Centre. Mason Appleton, Brenden Dillon and Sean Monahan replied for the Jets. Connor Hellebuyck made 38 saves in net for Winnipeg. Jets head coach Rick Bowness was back behind the bench after missing the previous four games because of a minor medical procedure.


Jordon McDonald and Jace Freeman both have 4-0 round robin records heading into day four at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, Alberta. McDonald defeated Jamie Stewart of New Brunswick 7-5 while Freeman downed Timothy Marin of Alberta 10-4. Shaela Hayward has a 2-2 record and Zoey Terrick is 0-3. Hayward defeated Ella Lenentine of Prince Edward Island 9-7 and lost 7-6 in an extra end to Jolianne Fortin of Quebec. Terrick fell 9-6 to Allyson MacNutt of Nova Scotia in her lone game of the day. 


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed American defensive back Terrell Bonds. The Miami native most recently played the 2023 season with the San Antonio Brahmas in the XFL, making 14 tackles, three pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, and 11 punt returns for 108 yards in nine games. Bonds was undrafted and signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2019. After spending that season on the practice roster, he saw action in four games with Baltimore in 2020, making six tackles, and then spent the remainder of the season on the PR. He spent the 2022 season with the Pittsburgh Maulers in the USFL. Bonds played four seasons at Tennessee State recording 95 tackles, ten interceptions, two touchdowns, 28 pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 39 games for the Tigers.
