Waskada’s Justin Lee and the Denver Pioneers are NCAA hockey champions. Magnus Chrona made 27 saves and Mike Benning had a goal and two assists as Denver beat Minnesota State 5-1 in the Frozen Four final in Boston. It’s the Pioneers record-tying ninth NCAA hockey championship.

The Winnipeg Ice have clinched first place in the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Conference. Cole Muir and Chase Wheatcroft scored two goals each as Winnipeg defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers 6-1. The Ice (50-10-3-2) are seven points ahead of the second place Edmonton Oil Kings and both teams have three games left in the regular season schedule. Nate Danielson scored the only goal of the shootout as Brandon shaded the Moose Jaw Warriors 3-2 at Westoba Place. Nolan Ritchie and Vincent Iorio scored in regulation for the Wheat Kings. Brandon netminder Ethan Kruger stopped 30 shots and all three Warriors shootout attempts. The Wheat Kings are three points behind Moose Jaw and Saskatoon. The Warriors and Blades are tied for fourth place with 78 points each. Brandon and Moose Jaw have three games left while Saskatoon has one.

The Manitoba Moose have clinched a spot in the Calder Cup playoffs. Manitoba fell 2-1 in overtime to the Chicago Wolves but the single point for the OT loss qualified the Moose for the American Hockey League post-season for the 16th time in franchise history.

Brad Gushue, Mark Nichols, Brett Gallant and Geoff Walker will play for gold at the 2022 World Men’s Curling Championship in Las Vegas. The four-time Canadian champions defeated Korey Dropkin of the United States 8-5 and will face Niklas Edin of Sweden in the gold medal game. Edin downed Joel Retornaz of Italy 8-4 in the other semifinal.
