The Springfield Xtreme and Lorette Comets were winners in the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League playoffs Saturday night. Owen Blocker and Nicolas Daymond scored two goals each as Springfield downed Steinbach 5-2 in Oakbank. Brody Welsh had the other Xtreme goal. Eric Adams on a first period penalty shot and Ethan Plett on a third period power play replied for the Huskies who lead 1-0 after the first period. The game was tied 1-1 after 40 minutes. Springfield leads the best-of-seven semifinal two games to one. Game four is tonight (7 p.m.) at the T.G. Smith Centre. Derik Cook and Cole Dekoninck scored two goals each as Lorette beat Niverville 7-2. Tyler Pilon, Blake Noble and Jesse Mistelbacher also scored for the hometown Comets who lead the series two games to none. Jaxsen Friesen and Dylan Peters did the goal scoring for the Clippers. Game three goes Thursday in Niverville.

 

The St. Malo Warriors play their regular season finale tonight (7 p.m.) against the Falcons in Lundar. The Warriors, who will finish in third place, face the Arborg Ice Dawgs in the Capital Region Junior Hockey League semfinals.

 

The Winnipeg Ice gave up four unanswered goals and lost 5-4 to the Broncos in Swift Current. Conor Geekie, Connor McClennon, Jack Finley and Carson Lambos did the goal scoring for the Ice who lead 4-1 after the first period.

 

David Gustafsson had the lone goal for the Manitoba Moose in their 5-1 loss to the Chicago Wolves at Canada Life Centre. Jack Drury and Josh Leivo both scored twice for the AHL’s Central Division leading Wolves.
