Around 100 children participated in the 4th Annual Emergency Services Boot Camp put on by Springfield Police Service.

The two-day event is held each year during spring break. It gives children 5 to 12 years of age the opportunity to connect with various emergency services within their local community.

This year, presentations were made by Canadian Armed Forces, Canadian National Railway Company Police Service, Winnipeg Police Service, Manitoba Government Conservation Officer Service, Manitoba Hydro and Rural Animal Management Services (RAMS).

“We'd also like to thank the Springfield Fire and Rescue Service, both for the use of their fire hall and also for the presentation that would have surely been excellent had they not had to respond to a structure fire in our community, we appreciate you!” - Springfield Police Service.

There continues to be a lot of support for this annual event, with people giving their time and energy, and organizations donating supplies. This year, Springfield Police partnered with Beausejour Consumers Co-op, Steinbach Credit Union, 38 Canadian Brigade Group/ 38e Groupe-brigade du Canada, RM of Springfield, HMCS Charlottetown, CFB Halifax; and Julie Gollub.

At the camp this year, there was quite an emphasis on physical fitness. As a result, and after just two days, the children and “some volunteers” ran 75 laps within the Firehall and performed 600 jumping jacks.
