There will be a lot of flag waving today as we celebrate Canada Day. Our country is turning 151 years old. There will festivities in Steinbach all day long, starting at 9:00 a.m.

Heather Chambers Ewen of the City of Steinbach says daytime activities take place at Mennonite Heritage Village.

"They've got free admission for the day and a whole bunch of activities for families throughout the day. So, you can spend your whole day there from 9:00 to 6:00 and then recuperate a little bit and come on out to the Soccer Park. Starting about 8:00 p.m., we've got the music DJ starting up, we'll give out cupcakes and glow sticks starting about 9:00 and the big fireworks finale is at 10:45."

She notes Archangel Fireworks will do the honours again this year.

"We are guaranteed a great show. It's about $20,000 to do a fireworks show of our caliber. It's a commercial fireworks show so, unfortunately, that's the cost of it. But we really enjoy it and it's fantastic."

She notes the city does receive a federal grant to help cover the cost of Canada Day activities.
