As a 4.8 magnitude earthquake rumbled through New York City on Friday morning, a man from Steinbach felt the vibrations while on Long Island.

“Me and my coworker at our client's house and it sounded like maybe a large helicopter or jet was flying overhead,” recalls Steve Klassen. “Everything was kind of rumbling and vibrating a little bit.”

The two colleagues joked around as they wondered what was responsible for the noise and vibrations, laughing about it being an earthquake, not believing that was exactly what they experienced.

“And then, maybe an hour later I got a notification on my phone that it actually was one,” Klassen says.

Although he has been near an earthquake in the past, this was the first time he felt the ground shaking.

“I was in California a while back and I got a notification that there was one, but I never felt or heard anything because it was quite a ways away for me. So, this is the first one I've actually felt and heard.”

Although he felt the quake, Klassen says there did not appear to be any damage in the area.
