Among the many ways Supplement King gives back to its Steinbach community is through its annual Employee Pricing Event.

This year, the three days of savings will be Friday, September 5 to Sunday, September 7, and customers can expect wall-to-wall savings at the 188 Main St location – as well as freebies and swag.

“We’ll have large discounts in the stores, up to 50%, and there will be buy-one, get-one options,” says Landon Pearse, who co-owns Supplement King with his wife Larissa. “Also, the first 50 people on both days of the sale will get a swag bag – an ‘ultimate gift bag’ with $100 to spend for the first 10, and a $50 bag for the next 40.”

He says the event is held around back-to-school time as a way to give back to the busy families and individuals who have supported the business ever since it opened in 2018.

Back then, the Pearses were living in Winnipeg. Landon drove daily to and from Steinbach for work, and on one occasion Larissa asked if he’d pick up some healthy products and supplements on the way home.

“I drove around to find her something, but there wasn’t really anything she was looking for,” he says.

The couple had already been wanting to move away from the city, and noticing an opportunity to fill a business need in the Southeast they secured a franchise for Steinbach. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Mitchell.

They quickly took to the local community, and the community took to them.

Seven years on, Supplement King serves Steinbach and Southeast residents with nutrition and workout products, meal replacements, protein powers, shakes and other health-and-fitness items.

“We carry a ton of supplements that can help anyone with their health and fitness,” explains Larissa. “We have vitamins; we have sugar-free sauces, collagens and greens.

Whether someone’s trying to lose weight, gain weight, maintain weight or just get their protein, we have everything. We’ve even got low-sugar, high-protein cereal, protein chips, crackers and drinks, and other healthy snacks.”

Initially, Larissa worked full-time at the store and trained its employees – many of whom have been with Supplement King for a considerable time. But when she and Landon had kids, she decided to spend more time at home with them and hired a coach for her postpartum period.

“The experience kind of brought me to thinking that I’d actually like to coach people myself, because I’ve seen some missing links,” she says. “I wanted to help women feel confident and comfortable in their skin again after having children, and I figured it would be something that tied into what we did at the store.”

Now, she offers one-on-one coaching, and when her kids return to school she goes back to the store.

Beyond the day-to-day operation of Supplement King, the Pearses enjoy being involved in what goes on in their community.

“We’ve found that the more we’re involved in the community, the more support we’ve had in the store,” says Landon. “We sponsor many events in Steinbach, from fairs to hockey and soccer teams. We’re one of the Gold Sponsors of the running track at the Event Centre as well.

They’ll also be a sponsor of the upcoming Firefighter Climb in support of mental health awareness.

Then there’s the September 5-7 sale.

“It’s just another opportunity to give back to the community,” says Landon.

“We always have a pretty big line-up, especially on the Friday,” adds Larissa. “I don’t know how people get off work, but they come in. There’s always a line.”
