Steinbach Community Outreach now has $2401.88 to put to good use after receiving funds raised during today's Taste of Summer Charity BBQ.
Charlene Kroeker, office manager for Steinbach Community Outreach, was overwhelmed and very thankful upon learning the total amount raised.
"Thank you to everybody for your support in what we do. It's amazing and we couldn't do it without the community behind us."
Steinbach Community Outreach focuses on assisting those experiencing poverty and homeless in southeast Manitoba. The organization manages Today House a homeless shelter based in Steinbach and a drop-in centre that provide a place for those in need to get food, and clothing, and find ways to access affordable shelter.
According to Executive Director Irene Kroeker, inflation is impacting how their organization helps those in need. They typically give out hampers and toiletry bags when requested, but things have changed a bit in that regard. "We've had to cut back a little bit because grocery prices are pretty steep these days. So if we have to purchase anything we have to be very careful with our money."
The money raised today will go a long way in helping provide for those needs as they come into their building.
The Taste Of Summer Charity Barbecue continues this August at the corner of Main and Lumber in front of the Steinbach Credit Union from 11 AM-1 PM.
- August 17 in support of Pat Porter Active Living Centre
- August 24 in support of Steinbach & Area Animal Rescue
- August 31 in support of Eastman Special Olympics
Big thank you to our sponsors who make it possible for every dollar raised to go directly to the charities.
