Plans are moving forward for the Town of Ste. Anne to annex land from the Rural Municipality of Ste. Anne.

Mayor Yvan St. Vincent says they are asking to add around 500 acres on the north side of the community.

“We got word that there’s a memorandum of understanding from the RM which will hopefully help the process along. We’ve just submitted our application to the province and we’re waiting to hear back from them on what the next steps are, where we go next.”

St. Vincent says the town needs more land for it to continue growing and this annexation will help, even though around 300 acres has a pipeline running underneath it, leaving it not usable.

He looks forward to getting approval from the province but does not have any indication as to how long this might take.

The town has seen a lot of growth over the past few years with an increase in residential development, a new school has been approved, new daycares are going up, and there are thoughts of adding more recreational facilities.

In 2023, there were 53 building permits issued for a total value of $27.6 million.

The town has also been expanding the lagoon to accommodate the new development.  This expansion should be completed by fall.
