“We’re doing a lot of positive things, and people are noticing and responding.”  

Pharmasave in Steinbach has now been open for over a year, and business is growing by leaps and bounds. According to owner Scott Penner, traffic has been particularly good recently, partially due to walk-in vaccination services.  

“Like most pharmacies, we offer full vaccination services. What makes us a bit different,” Penner continues, “is that we just do walk-ins. So you don’t need to book. Anyone can walk in any time to get their flu shot or updated COVID shot, or even travel vaccines if they’re going on holidays.” 

The business has seen an uptick in travel health questions over the last month or so, especially regarding travel vaccinations.  

“People, I think, are making up for time lost during the COVID travel restrictions- they’re cashing in now and they feel the need to get away.” 

Aside from prescriptions and vaccinations of all kinds, Penner wishes to remind people that they are a full-service pharmacy. This includes over-the-counter medication, health and beauty aids, and even an M&M Express. Also that Pharmasave is a co-op.  

“Even though it sounds kind of like a brand or a chain pharmacy, Pharmasave is a co-op, and I’m a member. There are over 800 stores across Canada, and every location is completely independently owned and operated.” Penner continues. “ And as a result of that, we can be pretty flexible with how we run our business.”

“A lot of people think it’s a bit tricky to transfer their prescriptions or their business to us.” Penner says. “But really, we do all the work. We reach out to their existing pharmacy, and we transfer everything over- they don’t have to do a thing.”
