The defending champions are into round two of the Carillon Senior Hockey League playoffs while the Huskies and Aces picked up important wins on home-ice.


Red River 5 La Broquerie 2
Josh Sabourin and Marc Sabourin scored two goals each as the Red River Wild defeated the La Broquerie Habs 5-2 Sunday night in St. Jean. Cole Brunet also scored for the two-time defending champions who swept the best-of-five opening round series in three games straight. Andre Carriere and Pat Gauthier did the goal scoring for the Habs who trailed 3-0 after the first period and 4-0 after the second frame. The Wild, who have won seven straight playoff series, join the Springfield 98's in the semifinals.


Ste. Anne 6 Grunthal 4
Tyler Swerdyliak scored the go-ahead goal with 3:05 left in the third period and Justin Boulet added an insurance marker with 65 seconds remaining as the Ste. Anne Aces beat the Grunthal Red Wings 6-4. Boulet had two goals on the night while Kelly Morrisette, Ryan Bram and Carson McCallum also scored for the hometown Aces who evened their opening round series at one. Tim Plett had a pair of goals for the Red Wings while singles went to Jeff Penner and Travis Martens. The game was tied 1-1 after the first period and Ste. Anne led 4-2 after 40 minutes. Game three goes Tuesday in Grunthal.


Steinbach 5 St. Malo 0
Caden Unger stopped all 23 shots he faced as the Steinbach Huskies blanked the St. Malo Warriors 5-0 at the T.G. Smith Centre. Brett Adnum, Ted Laing, Justin Giesbrecht, Stacey Neufeld and Tim Thiessen did the goal scoring for the Huskies who bounced back from Wednesday's 6-1 loss in the series opener in St. Malo. Warriors goaltender Matthew Krahn faced 40 shots in game two. Game three goes Monday night in Steinbach.
