The Carillon Sultans are one win away from capturing their first Manitoba Junior Baseball League championship since 2012. Carillon plated six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and tacked on four more in the fifth en route to a 12-5 victory over the Elmwood Giants Friday night at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach. Joe Plett and Luc Lagasse each had three hits for the Sultans. Game four goes Sunday (1 p.m.) at Koskie Field in Winnipeg. The Eastman Wildcats have a 4-0 record heading into day three of Softball Manitoba's Provincial U13 AAA Championship at Quarry Park in Stonewall. The Wildcats defeated Central Energy 8-1 and Winnipeg Lightning 8-5. Eastman will wrap up the round robin against Smitty's Terminators and the host Interlake Phillies today. The top four teams advance to the playoffs on Sunday. Brandon is hosting the Provincial U11 AA, U13 AA & U15 AA Championships. The U17 AA Championship is in Morden. Baseball Manitoba's Provincial 18U AAA Tier 1 & Tier 2 Championships are at Charleswood Park in Winnipeg. The Provincial 13U AA & 15U AA Championships are in Brandon. The 11U & 13U Prospects Showcase is in Portage la Prairie. The Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped a 3-1 decision to the American Association’s West Division leading Canaries in Sioux Falls. Keshawn Lynch drove in the lone run of the game for the Fish who are 0-2 since returning from the All-Star break. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-5) face the Argonauts (3-3) tonight in Toronto. The Blue Bombers, who are 0-3 on the road this season, have made three changes to the depth chart. On are defensive backs Maquise Bridges and Tyrique McGhee as well as linebacker Max Charbonneau. Off are linebackers Kyrie Wilson and Brian Cole along with fullback Bailey Feltmate. Wilson, Cole and Feltmate have been moved to the six-game injured list. The Canadian men’s basketball team will face Greece this afternoon in their opener at the Olympic Games in Paris. Canada is in Group A with Spain, Australia and Greece. The top eight teams from group play advance to the quarterfinals. Day one also features swimming, road cycling, skateboarding, fencing, tennis, artistic gymnastics, beach volleyball, equestrian, canoe/kayak, shooting and badminton.
