Tache Fire Department to conduct live burn training near Landmark
The Tache Fire Department is hosting a live fire training event near Landmark. Fire Chief Allan Rau says the department was donated a house three years ago, which has been used for various training exercises including forcible entry, ventilation, and rescue. He explains that the building has now served its purpose and, with the owner’s permission, will be used for a controlled burn. “We're going to watch fire behavior, do some attack techniques to show our new recruits as well as our younger firefighters how water affects fire, how it affects smoke, and things of that nature.” The live burn is scheduled to take place on October 29, around 8 p.m. south of Landmark on Ste. Annes Road, east of PR 206. Rau says hands-on experiences like this are essential for firefighter training. “We welcome the opportunity to do this type of stuff so that we can hone our skills, learn more, and see what fire actually does and how you can prevent if something ever terrible were to happen, how to prevent those actions of what we did and things like that. It's great.” Residents in the area may see large flames and smoke during the training. Rau reminds the public to keep a safe distance and allow space for emergency vehicles. “It's always a spectacle when someone sees fire and people want to go there and take a look and take pictures. Everybody's welcome to do so. We just ask that they don't get in the way of the firefighters doing their work. There'll be a number of vehicles on the roadway, on the municipal roads. So just try to stay out of the way.” With files from Kenton Dyck
