Ian Sherwood serenades Southeast audience
Ian Sherwood took to the Steinbach Regional Secondary School (SRSS) stage on Thursday, Oct. 9, and brought his East Coast magic to Steinbach. Crowd favourite “It was exactly how I knew it would be,” Tara Shellenberg, performing arts coordinator at Steinbach Arts Council (SAC), says. Schellenberg notes this isn’t Sherwood’s first time in the prairies. “I saw him originally in Steinbach when we hosted the Manitoba Showcase in 2023. I just knew that our audience would love him and that we had to bring him back.” Sherwood combines folk and pop melodies to create an intimate atmosphere that draws audience members in. “We had a great crowd, great turnout, and Ian is just so warm in his storytelling, and his musicianship is off the charts,” Schellenberg notes. “I wasn’t super familiar with his work, but I was absolutely blown away by the show,” says concert attendee, Marc Moir. “The level of musicianship and his voice is incredible. It was just a beautiful show.” Magical musicianship Though Sherwood stands alone on stage, he creates the energy and sound of a full band. “He does live looping of the saxophone, guitar and his voice. It was really neat to experience him kind of building the song live in front of (us),” says concert attendee, Darby Holden. Live looping is a musical technique that involves the process of live recording and playing back in real-time. Stay tuned The SAC Concert Series brings even more talent to Steinbach. Coming up soon is Prairie Sons — a classical piano and cello duo. “They are rising stars in the classical music scene here in Canada. They’ve both been named to CBC’s Top 30 Under 30,” Shellenberg explains. “They’re really making a name for themselves.” Tickets can be purchased on the SAC website or by calling their office.
