Steinbach Arts Council launches Adult Musical Theatre workshop series
Adults with a love for the stage have a new opportunity to sharpen their performance skills this fall. The stage is calling The Steinbach Arts Council (SAC) is launching a new musical theatre workshop series, tailored to adult learners. “We really thought there was an opportunity in the community to provide some learning at a bit of the higher level, especially in the area of musical theatre,” says David Klassen, executive director of SAC. “We can’t do a musical every year, so this was a way to keep the learning going and have a good time while we’re doing it.” Cue the spotlight The four-part workshop series will focus on solo performance, giving participants the chance to explore their craft through singing, acting and stage movement. Each student will bring a song of their choice to work on, developing it into a polished, performable piece. “We're excited to get these people more comfortable moving and singing as soloists. And then, of course, understanding how that plays into their role in the cast, regardless of whether they lead role, a chorus part or a supporting role,” Klassen explains. Encore-worthy education The class is open to participants aged 16 and up who are comfortable singing and acting, though no prior experience is required. Class sizes are capped at eight to 10 participants — ensuring each student will have the opportunity for individualized coaching and feedback. “The last class will be performances for everyone, and we’ll likely offer an opportunity to invite your family and friends,” says Klassen. “Sometimes, family doesn’t get a chance to watch fellow family members perform. And so, this is a neat way to showcase what adults are able to learn.” To register and secure your spot, visit steinbachartscouncil.ca or call 204-346-1077. With files from Laura Kathleen Turner
