Sabres demolish Sturgeon Heights in impressive overall performance
The Varsity Sabres defeated the Sturgeon Heights Huskies 39–0 on a beautiful autumn afternoon. The Sabres’ defense was dominant from start to finish, especially in the first quarter when field position was not in their favor. The unit made several key special teams plays to swing momentum, including a blocked field goal by Oliver Dueck and two blocked punts by Ryder Wallace and Seth Friesen. The offense capitalized quickly, with Ryan Martin opening the scoring on a 25-yard pop-pass touchdown from Angelo Stoyanov. The weirdest play of the day came moments later when Stoyanov connected with Sinclair for a 55-yard catch and run—only for the ball to be fumbled and scooped up by Owen Medeiros, who carried it another 25 yards into the end zone. Game Highlights: Angelo Stoyanov: 3/4 passing, 56 yards, 1 TD Mason Wiebe: 6/11 passing, 99 yards, 1 TD Wade Anderson: 14 carries, 233 yards, 1 TD Parker Mantie: 2 receptions, 43 yards Tyler Penner: 2 receptions, 46 yards Daniel Wiebe: 5 tackles, 2 tackles for loss Jeryk Wiebe: 1.5 sacks Dylan Godlewski: 1 sack, 4 tackles Seth Friesen: 1 sack, 3 tackles The Sabres close out the WHSFL regular season next Friday at 7:00 p.m. against the Oak Park Raiders at Charleswood Broncos Field. The winner will secure second place in the Potter Division. Meanwhile, the JV Sabres continue their playoff push as they take on Miles Macdonell next Wednesday.
