Dreams Take Flight creates magical memories for children
Over 100 children had the chance to experience the magic of Disneyland thanks to Dreams Take Flight Winnipeg. The group, accompanied by dozens of volunteers, embarked on a 24-hour, all-expenses-paid trip to the happiest place on earth. Dreams Take Flight Winnipeg Board Chair Wayne Lambert says the journey wrapped up at 3 a.m. on October 10, with many volunteers reflecting on the unforgettable experience. “We really appreciate our volunteers and the people that make this happen.” The entire trip is made possible through the efforts of volunteers, including pilots, flight staff, doctors, and group leaders, along with the generosity of donors and sponsors. MIX 96.7 Morning Show host Corny Rempel joined the adventure as one of the hosts for the Mickey Mouse group. “What an amazing day,” Lambert says. “I'm really glad that we had Mr. Rempel come with us on this flight and see these children evolve, as we talked about when we saw each other last time and the changes that these kids went through. So, you really experience it.” For many of the children, the day was nothing short of life-changing, a chance to leave their worries behind and simply be kids. “And it doesn't happen without people helping us,” says Lambert. “And it's our best day of our life too. It is an amazing thing to see these children who are very quiet and think the world is against them, you've just experienced where they know the world is with them, helping them, and really want to see them succeed.” The day was filled with laughter, rides, treats, and, of course, plenty of Disney magic. @steinbach_online To be given the opportunity to give such joy to these deserving children is one of the biggest highlights of my career! 119 deserving children who’ve had a rough start to life got the 24 hour trip of a lifetime to Disney Disneyland thanks too Dreams Take Flight! #dreamstakeflight #disney #disneyland #cornyrempel ♬ original sound - SteinbachOnline Those interested in nominating a child for a future trip can visit the Dreams Take Flight website. “Get an idea of what we're about. We do interview people. We have an online application process. But a lot of our kids come from CFS, and other different agencies like that to come forward. But anybody can put a child forward. Any organization could put a child forward. When you go on our website and it says nominate a child, most things are there.” Lambert encourages nominators to review the eligibility criteria before applying, adding that anyone can nominate a deserving child. “And the old saying is, it takes a community to raise a child. And it's a community that's bringing these children forward to be part of this magical day.” With files from Corny Rempel Check out photos from the magical trip below.
