Jonathan Toews’ family celebrates his return to the Winnipeg Jets
Many local Winnipeg Jets fans are extra excited this season with the return of hockey star Jonathan Toews. Toews’ cousin, Kurtis Enns, who lives in Steinbach, says the season is already showing promise. “He's looking pretty good. He's going to only get stronger here as things go on. He's getting his legs together now. He's already dominant in the face-off circle, which I think is pretty good. He's a real playmaker, so he's going to bring a lot to the table, setting guys up with goals and stuff like that. So, yeah, it should be a pretty good season.” Enns says his family made sure to be in the arena when he hit the ice. “We were there for the first game, and they announced him coming on to the ice, and you could definitely tell he was a fan favourite there for sure. It got pretty loud. That was pretty neat to see.” He says the whole experience was one to remember. “It was pretty fun. Then after the game, we got to go to his house with some family and friends and stuff like that. It was a pretty good evening.” On October 13, Toews picked up his first point of the season, something Enns says could be the start of great things ahead. “I think sometimes in the beginning of the season it takes a little bit of time to get things going,” he says. “I think he's trying to figure out their line. I guess too, that hasn't really been official who's out playing with him. They're kind of mixing things up a little bit. So, once they get that all figured out, they get a few games on their belt there, I think they're going to improve going forward here for sure. [Some are] injured too, so once they all come back, it'll make a big difference.” Enns says the entire family is thrilled to see Toews back home. “We're all pretty excited about it. For sure, this season's going to be pretty awesome to watch. [At the] end of November, we have to go to Nashville to see a game, so we're looking forward to that too.” As a family of hockey fans, Enns says they will be sure to tune into every Jets game. “We're not going to miss a game now. We all got the jerseys going on now too and stuff, so yeah, it should be good.” Enns says he looks forward to watching the Jets this season. “Hopefully they will go far in the playoffs this year.” With files from Kenton Dyck
