Steinbach sees over 100mm of rain, flooding reported across city
Heavy rainfall has led to localized flooding across parts of southeastern Manitoba, with Steinbach seeing more than 100 millimetres of rain between Thursday and early Friday morning. According to the Manitoba Ag Weather Network, Steinbach received 106.1 millimetres of rain, including 53.3 millimetres since midnight. Niverville has so far recorded the highest rainfall amount at 125 mm just south of the town. Other rainfall totals include: Niverville (south of town) 125 mm Marchand at 61 millimetres Richer at 39 St. Pierre at 26.2 Menisino at 18.4 Dominion City at 13.0 Rosa at 12.8 Gardenton at 12.7 The downpour has caused water to pool on several Steinbach streets. Intersections at Loewen Boulevard and Brandt Street, Park Road and Old Tom Road, and the area of McKenzie Avenue West have all been affected. Motorists are being advised to drive with caution and consider alternate routes where possible. Steinbach and Area Animal Rescue has reported its basement flooded once again, almost exactly one year after a similar incident on September 17, 2024 when a storm dumped around 200mm of rain. Repairs had been completed following that event, but the water has returned after this latest storm. The forecast calls for a few showers ending this morning, then cloudy skies with a risk of a thunderstorm early this morning. Fog patches are expected to dissipate as the day goes on. The high is expected to reach 24 with a humidex of 31 and a UV index of 5 or moderate. Tonight’s forecast is partly cloudy with fog patches developing overnight and a low of 17.
