Ste. Anne Police Chief says MPI program is allowing officers to save lives across the southeast

The Chief for Ste. Anne Police says their officers continue to see a high volume of traffic offences across the community and surrounding highways. The detachment has partnered with Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI). Through its Enhanced Enforcement Program, Marc Robichaud says officers are able to dedicate focused time and resources to traffic safety, resulting in greater visibility, stronger deterrence, and safer roads for residents and travellers. Robichaud says highlights from their September enforcement include an Immediate Roadside Prohibition issued during an MPI-funded enforcement shift in Steinbach. In a separate incident, a driver fled from police and operated a motor vehicle dangerously. Robichaud says this resulted in a charge of flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. In addition, officers issued 11 provincial offence notices related to the same incident. The suspect driver has not yet been arrested, and the investigation remains active. So far in September, the program has resulted in the following provincial offence notices: Speeding offences: 158 Licensing-related offences: eight drive without a license, five drive while disqualified Vehicle-related offences: 23 unregistered vehicles Distracted driving offences: four cellphone-related Other offences: two imprudent driving charges Officers also issued numerous warnings and additional tickets for stop sign violations, failing to move over for emergency vehicles, and failing to produce registration or driver's license when required. "Our officers are making a real difference," says Robichaud. "The strong results we're seeing would not be possible without the support of Manitoba Public Insurance's Enhanced Enforcement Program. This program has given us the ability to address dangerous driving behaviours directly and consistently. Together with MPI, we are preventing collisions, saving lives, and protecting families across the southeast." Robichaud says the Ste. Anne Police Service has developed a reputation for visible, consistent, and proactive enforcement. He notes MPI's Enhanced Enforcement Program has been central to this success, making it possible for a small police service like theirs to deliver big results. Robichaud says more than 1,000 traffic stops this year have sent a clear message of deterrence and accountability. He adds continued collaboration ensures that this momentum is not lost and that the proven benefits of enhanced enforcement, reduced collisions, increased compliance, and safer communities, continue to grow.
