An 18,000 litre fuel tanker tipped onto its side about two miles west of La Broquerie just off Highway 52 shorly before 3 p.m. on Monday.

Fire Chief Alain Nadeau says the tanker was driving down a driveway just off the highway when it started driving onto the shoulder and then tipped onto its side. He notes the cause is most likely driver error.

Nadeau says there is a small leak that is being contained.

"We've got a lot of Sorb All pads, we've got the hazmat trailer there, it has a lot of equipment in there - barrels, pails, shovels. Right now we've set up cribs and we're containing the leak and transferring it into tote tanks."

Nadeau says there were no injuries to the driver and lone occupant who was wearing a seatbelt.

He notes crews are expecting to be on scene until midnight before everything is cleaned up.
