The Rural Municipality of La Broquerie passed a motion to have Prairie By-Law Enforcement help with animal control in the municipality for a cost of $1200 per month.

Dave Prud'Homme, owner of Prairie By-Law EnforcementReeve Lewis Weiss says when animals are caught they will be brought to the Manitoba Animal Hospital in Winnipeg. He adds the owner of the animal would then be responsible for any fees incurred during that time.

"We will obviously be monitoring the fees and the costs," notes Weiss. "I never thought there were as many problems. It just seems that all of a sudden in the last couple of weeks there's been an unbelievable amount of issues with animals. It's interesting, to say the least."

The motion was passed with a 5-2 majority vote. Weiss along with Deputy Reeve Darrell Unger voted against the motion. Weiss says he voted to decline the motion because he thinks there are too many variables, but adds the answers may be found through proceeding and working through any issues which may arise.
