It seems a case of the munchies may have led to the arrest of a man from St. Malo.

In late December there was a break-and-enter at a residence in Altona. While investigating the incident, Altona Police officers noticed the suspect had consumed some food and beer during the break-in. It also appeared the suspect used the home's phone to make several phone calls.

With the help of the Winkler Police Service Forensic Identification Unit, several DNA swabs were taken and sent to the National DNA Data Bank. The results came back positive for a match and officers have charged a 32-year old man from St. Malo with Break-And-Enter. He is currently in custody on a number of charges from multiple police agencies.

A gun stolen during the Altona break-in was later recovered in a stolen vehicle in Winnipeg.
