The officer in charge of traffic services for RCMP in Manitoba says drivers are continuing to put their lives and the lives of others at risk by driving impaired, speeding or simply not paying attention. Ed Moreland made the comment after a ten-hour span over the weekend in which three people died and 11 were injured on roads in the province.

It started during the noon hour Saturday with a four-vehicle collision on the north side of Winnipeg at Pipeline Road and the Perimeter. Police say one of the vehicles ran a red light and caused the collision. Nine people were treated, including a 9 year-old girl who went to hospital in critical condition.

Also during the noon hour Saturday, two males in their 50's died when the ATV they were riding crashed near Shilo. Police say speed was a factor as the machine hit an embankment and went flying. The landing of the ATV resulted in serious injuries to the two males within, both were wearing seatbelts and helmets. The males, aged 59 and 51 from Brandon, were later pronounced deceased on scene.

Then, shortly before 10 Saturday evening, there was a fatal rollover on Highway#23, three kilometres east of Ninette when a pick-up truck went out of control and rolled. A 32 year-old man from Belmont died and two others were injured. Police say alcohol was a factor.

Moreland says unless Manitobans commit to safe driving, this loss of life will continue to occur.
