International Women's Day is this Friday, March 8th – the perfect day for Agape House to host its annual Purple Gala.

“The Purple Gala is an amazing opportunity to bring together our community, celebrate the resilience of women, and raise funds for our essential services.”

Agape House provides a safe space and 24/7 support to those experiencing domestic violence in southeastern Manitoba.

Executive Director Tracy Whitby reveals what Gala attendees can expect this year.

“It’s going to be stunning. We’ll have aerial acrobatics performed by Monica’s Danz Gym, it’s going to take our breath away!”

Whitby says their goal with the gala this year was to give people a chance to enjoy each other's company, to mingle, to collaborate, and have fun together. Featuring an exciting inspirational speaker, a photobooth for selfies with friends, and fun food as always.

“There will be amazing appetizers, every year people talk about the delicious food,” reveals Whitby. “After the program, the social begins, with a DJ, a dance, and at the bar we’ll have our signature Purple Passion cocktail. It's gorgeous!”

The Agape House gala is known for having the best silent auction prizes, Whitby adds, and this year is no exception.

“We have so many prizes. Every year I’m shocked by the generosity of those who donate items. We’re the recipients of such amazing prizes. Our silent auction is truly second to none.”

So who is the Purple Gala for? Whitby says it’s for everyone ages 18+.

“We want to see women, we want to see men, we want to see people from all our communities! The more diversity, the better.”

The Purple Gala is a celebration of International Women's Day, highlighting how far women have come.

“We’re showcasing women and the amazing work they do – all their accomplishments and versatility. Our speakers are women, our caterers are women, our performers are women, and our emcee is a woman – we’re super excited to have the fabulous Carly Koop join us again, as she certainly draws a crowd.”

With all its great food, entertainment, stories, and glamorous moments at nearby Friedensfeld Community Centre, the Purple Gala will make a great night out with your significant other or a bunch of friends.

“It's going to be a beautiful, beautiful evening -- doing some good, giving back, while having a great time.”

Whitby adds that it will also be an opportunity for organizations to showcase their support for Agape House.

“Right now if you purchase a table of eight, you'll get a ten-dollar discount on each ticket. So your business can purchase a table and get brand exposure. We'll put your logo on the table so everyone sees that your business supports women's achievements. It's an opportunity to engage in the community, while giving back to your staff, treating them to a great night out. It's win, win, win!”

“Steinbach doesn't always get these beautiful events, and this is one you won’t want to miss,” shares Whitby. “It’ll be such a wonderful night for women to support women, for men to support women, and to just have fun!”

When it comes to dress code, Whitby says anything goes.

“You don’t have to dress any certain way. If you want, please dress up. Quite a few of our staff will be wearing gorgeous dresses, and we’re happy to welcome you that way. If you have some sparkle, put some sparkle on. Or if you feel more comfortable dressed casually, that’s absolutely welcome as well. Either way, it's just going to be so much fun!”
