Three young siblings are looking after a cornfield in hopes to earn enough money for a trip to Mexico with their parents.

So far they have raised over $2,000 and have a goal of $6,000 as it will cost each kid $2,000 to go to Mexico.

They decided to start selling sweet corn so they could go away on a warm vacation once winter comes around.

Their dad, Jason Rempel planted the corn, and the kids helped with fertilizing and spraying, and are in charge of mowing in between the rows and pulling the weeds.

While pulling weeds isn’t typically fun, Kian Rempel says it is satisfying to rip them out of the ground.

“When there's a big one and the roots are small, you can just pull it out it's so satisfying, when they're big and they have big roots, if you pull it and then it just goes back. The last time that happened I was with my brother and we just flew backwards into the row behind.”

Avery Rempel says ‘Rempel Corn U-Pick’ has been pretty popular.

“Last Saturday was our best day so far, we got almost $500 of cash from people just coming and buying all our corn.”

She says the reaction from the customers have been great.

“They think it's sweet that the kids came up with this idea to sell corn because they want to raise money and they like that we're doing the work.”

Avery says a lot of people stop by.

“We've had lots of kids from families we know from school because they live in the town near us, and we've just had lots of people come with their kids to help pick, grandparents, grandkids, lots of people coming.”

Some people pick their own corn, hence the name 'U-Pick, but sometimes they get the kids to do the work.

“They have to call ahead and ask us for our pre-pick and they tell us how much they want and when they want it, then we have to go out and pick the corn and bag it for them.”

She notes when they pre-pick they often get tips.

“They don't have to give us one, but we have gotten some nice tips from people.”
