We all know that the winter weather arrives each year around this time, and yet, many of us tend to leave the winter tires until the snow falls.

Now, it’s a mad dash to the tire shop with hopes there is someone with time to fit us in at a moment’s notice.

A few weeks ago, Chris Dyck at Kal Tire in Steinbach said they were starting to get busy with appointments for changing to winter tires.

So, when our first snowy forecast was issued, they were extremely busy all week.

Dyck says wait times increase exponentially now that we have our first snowfall.

;" role="figure" />Streets in Steinbach are being cleared of snow and sanded. There are icy sections on most streets and intersections are especially slick.In Steinbach, crews are out clearing and sanding the streets and sidewalks.

Chelsea from Marchand phoned in to say her drive to Vita this morning was a long, slow drive. She says there’s a lot of ice and snow on the highway but visibility was okay.

Tom phoned from south of Grunthal and says the roads are slick this morning.

The Department of Highways reports the continued closure of the Trans-Canada from Falcon Lake to the Ontario border.

There are number highway closures in southern Manitoba, mostly west of the Red River.

Highways in the Southeast are reported to be partly ice covered with blowing and drifting snow.

Poor visibility is reported on Highway 75 from Ste. Agathe to St. Adolphe, as well as along Highway 52 from Highway 59 to Mitchell.
