January 30th is the annual 'Gotcha Day' for the Dueck family in Mitchell. Jacqueline Dueck says in the adoption world, Gotcha Day is the day adoptive families bring their kids home with them.

Each year the Dueck family holds an all you can eat soup and bun fundraiser to help support the Children of the Promise Orphanage in Haiti, where their kids came from. The second annual event was held at the Mitchell Senior Centre Monday evening.

Dueck says each year they hope to surpass the amount of money raised at the previous year's fundraiser, and this year they are on pace to do that. She says a group of kids at the school in St. Pierre where her children attend, are holding a bake sale this week to contribute to the fundraiser, which she says should push it over the top.

Because the orphanage feels like an extended part of the family, Dueck says they keep in regular contact. "As the years go by we are getting more involved. What they are doing is phenomenal and I feel like it's our job to help out. We live in the best country in the world and we have so much to give. I want to say a big thank you to everyone who supported us. This community is so generous and loving, and willing to help people in need."

Dueck adds they will be sending more than $3,000.00 to the orphanage in Haiti from this year's fundraiser.
