Steinbach firefighters were dispatched to an out of control burn barrel fire just north of the city late Thursday afternoon.

Deputy Fire Chief Ron Chausse says his crews responded to the scene just past Diamond Construction along Highway 12 at roughly 4:00 PM.

and nearby businesses, Chausse admits that the fire could have done a lot of damage if it was left alone for too long. He commends his crews for acting fast and extinguishing the blaze before it harmed any nearby buildings.
