The people of Lorette and area took part in an event Saturday to remember and honour a teenage boy who died in a tragic accident last fall. Colin Roer was a passenger in a car driven by another 17-year-old who had been drinking that crashed on PR 207 near Lorette. Michelle Sauve is the manager of Lorette Co-op where Roer worked part time before his untimely death.

"Colin Roer was 17. He was killed in a car tragedy in October 2016. We were very close. He worked for us for about a year-and-a-half. We just felt that we needed to find a way to give

back to the community so we've launched this fundraiser on behalf of the community. The money is going to be raised for a memorial bursary and this will be given to a graduating student at CLC (College Lorette Collegiate) that exhibits Colin's passions and the person he was."

Sauve says Roer was a wonderful young man and it's important that he be remembered in a special way.

"Colin was just one of those hard working kids. He quietly went about volunteering for the church. He never showboated. He was very quiet about his passion of playing drums. He never mentioned to anyone that he was really good. He was one of those kids who was eager to get out there and work. He was always prompt and would help me out anytime at work. He was just a really great kid. We want to make sure the community realizes that these kids, we need to treasure them. We can't bring him back but we can surely honour his name this year and maybe, depending on the fundraiser, hopefully, can go forward on a yearly memorial basis."

A barbeque and raffle took place Saturday at College Lorette Collegiate with all proceeds going to the bursary.
